Female Infertility
Female infertility is a common gynocological disorder. Women of child-bearing age who do not use contraceptives and have had sex with their husbands for two years without pregnancy are diagnosed as primarily infertile, while woman who had born a child or had an abortion but no further pregnancy for two years are diagnosed as secondarily infertile. The primary disease (resulting in female infertility) includes adnexitis, tuboovarian mass, subdevelopement of uterus, emenorrhea and menorrhalgia.
According to TCM, female infertility is usually caused by deficiency of vital function (Qi, Yin and Yang) of the kidney, blood stasis, obstruction of Qi of the liver, and blocked lung. The treatment should thus be aimed at reinforcing Qi, tonifying Yin or Yang of the kidney, removing stagnation of Qi of the liver and dispelling dampness and resolving foamy phlegm.
Selection of points and manipulation methods:
(1) For reinforcing Qi and Yin of the kidne, the points kidney, spleen, liver, ovary and uterus are punctured with reinforcing method. Needles are retained for 10-30 minutes.
(2) For tonifying the Yang of the kidney, moxibustion is frequently used in combination with acupuncture at the above mentioned points.
(3) For removing stagnation of Qi of the liver, the points kidney, liver, brain and endocrine are stimulated by auricular electric acupuncture. Frequency and intensity are adjusted to maximum tolerance.
(4) For dispelling dampness and resolving foamy phlegm, the points lung and Sanjiao are punctured in addition to the above-mentioned ones.
For all four methods, the procedure is done once a week, during which stimulation via seed-pressure may be substained.
Remarks:
There is much evidence to suggestthat patients with menoxenia show the highest curative rate, patients with cervictis and with subdevelopment of uterus come next, and thos with adnexitis show the lowest curative rate. |
